October 2009- Stanton
Concepts has developed a new generation of "TSA Recognized" style luggage
lock, patent pending, to address certain issues surrounding product
currently in the marketplace. This exciting and innovative new lock design
has several benefits. The new lock is faster and more convenient for
the TSA and other opening authorities to open and re-secure. No new keys or
tools are required. It is simpler and has fewer parts than currently
available "TSA Recognized" style luggage locks. There are no known
Intellectual Property conflicts, neither structural or method. The design
provides the customer with improved security, peace of mind and evidence
that the lock has been opened.
The "Next Generation Luggage Lock" technology, as well as
intellectual property relating to SCI's other technologies, are available

April 2009- "Locks—the
Search for Security", April 7 – July 12, 2009, at the
Red Mill Museum
in Clinton, New Jersey
Locks: the Search for Security presents an unusual look at the history of
man’s age-old search for privacy and safety. Selected from the extensive
collection of lock enthusiast Robert Loughlin, chaiman and founder of
Stanton Concepts , Locks will be on view until July 12, 2009. Among the
locks on display are examples of seals, wooden pin tumblers and modern
mechanisms. These locks come in the most unexpected variety of sizes and
shapes. They range from a dramatic large wooden example of a 4,000-year-old
Egyptian tumbler lock, to ancient Greco-Roman and 600-year-old Persian
padlocks. There are primitive-looking African locks and an elegant
1,000-year-old Chinese lock in the shape of a fish. And there are complex
modern locks including the Robotic Key System Lock. Robert Loughlin, an
engineer and graduate of Lafayette College in Easton, is a life-long
inventor and collector of locks. He has worked in the lock industry for 35
years. During that time he helped develop weapons security systems for the
Department of Defense.

August 2008- An in depth
article about Stanton Concepts RKS lock appears in the 3rd addition of
NDE (Non Destructive
Entry) magazine. The article does a great job of describing the
birth of the idea, how the lock sport community played an important role and
the open source nature of the lock. The piece also includes some excellent
product photographs of the RKS by
Eric Schmiedl.
More About NDE:
“First of all, NDE means "Non-Destructive Entry." That's likely the last
time you'll get an explanation of any of the terminology used in this
publication.
In this magazine you will find photographs, descriptions, theories and
interviews on the subject of opening locks. You will not find anywhere near
the volume, nor the level of detail that is available on your massive
interwebs.
This is a magazine aimed at those already involved in the locksport world,
or those who like to keep track of it. It is, specifically, about community
and culture. I do not expect you to learn how to pick from us, we will not
be covering the basic theory, or explaining how to bump.
This magazine is for the passionate, for those who know names like
Han
Fey, Barry
Wels and
Marc Tobias. This magazine is for people who can locate Sneek, NL
on a map. And know why it's important. And it's for everyone who, reading
this paragraph, wants to know.
It is my sincerest hope that this magazine is for you. Thank you for
reading.- Schuyler Towne”
August 2008-Schuyler Towne
includes a discussion on the RKS lock as part of his presentation titled
“How To Make Friends and Influence Lock Manufacturers” at
DEFCON 16
in Las Vegas Nevada. Schuyler discusses the genesis of the RKS concept as
well as the Open Source aspect of the Robotic Dialer.
Schuyler Towne is a competitive lock picker,
TOOOL member, and Executive Editor of
NDE Magazine.
He has spent the last year trying to resolve the ethics of responsible
disclosure in physical security and bridge the gap between locksport and
lock manufacturers.
July 2008- Han Fey of
Han Fey Technologies
presents “RKS, Worlds First Open Source Lock” at the Last HOPE
hacker conference at the Hotel Pennsylvania in NYC. Han discusses the mechanical
aspects of the RKS cylinder as well as the Open Source aspect of the Robotic
Dialer.

March 2007- Robert Loughlin appeared for a taping of
the Hugh Thompson Show in NYC. Bob is interviewed by the host Hugh Thompson
about the history of locks from the 3rd century BCE pin tumbler
technology to his vision of future lock technology using SCI’s combination
lock and robotic key system (RKS). Bob was also asked to share and present a
very small sampling of his extensive lock collection.
Babak Javadi from
TOOOL.US also was a guest on the same
show. Hugh interviewed Babak about bump keys and bumping attacks.
‘The Hugh Thomson Show brings celebrated uber geeks to
the screen in a wildly entertaining internet-based variety talk show,
produced by AT&T. Internet Security guru and author Dr. Herbert “Hugh”
Thompson has seen it all – hacked voting machines, airline computer
insecurities, e-commerce vulnerabilities and cell phone exploits. Hugh
brings a lifetime of security expertise and a wide-eyed enthusiasm to the
Hugh Thompson Show.’
November 2006- John Loughlin presented the TOC Concept
(Tool Operated Combination Lock, also referred to as the RKS principle at
the TOOOL 2006 Dutch Open in Sneek, Netherlands.
Since 2002
TOOOL has been
organizing the now
world-famous and world-infamous 'Dutch Open' lock pick championships. This is
where lock pickers from different countries (Germany, France, the
Netherlands, and even the US) battle it out for the highly coveted cup.
Unlike in TOOOL’s continuous competition, competitors in the Dutch
Open get a different new lock each time.
The lock pickers, lock enthusiasts,
lock manufacturers and lock experts present at the Dutch Open represent a
tremendous body of knowledge and expertise. The event provided Stanton
Concepts the opportunity to tap into the vast wealth of knowledge and gain
valuable feedback.
February 2006- Robert Loughlin
was invited to presents “An
Alternative To Traditional Locks and Seals” at the 7th Security Seals Symposium
co-hosted by the
DOD lock program and
DHS.
The DOD Lock Program and Department of
Homeland Security co-hosted the 7th Security Seals Symposium on February 28
- March 2, 2006 in Santa Barbara, CA at Fess Parker's Double Tree Resort.
This is the only Symposium dedicated to information exchange and technology
transfer of security seals. Recent security events and new international
cargo rules emphasize security seals as an integral piece of a tiered
security process.
The Symposium is a forum to present
contemporary and advanced topics on seal technology and applications, expert
panel discussions, new products and ideas, and new government policies. This
event is a great networking opportunity to meet policy makers and security
professionals involved with security seals. Previous Symposiums were hosted
solely by DOD, but co-hosting this Symposium with DHS ensures wider subjects
covering domestic and international topics, and broader audience interests.
The F12 Award of Excellence was established in 1997 and
is conferred, as warranted, by Committee F12 on Security Systems and
Equipment in recognition of meritorious contributions to the cause of
voluntary standardization, specifically with respect to security systems and
equipment standards. The award has been established to recognize outstanding
service to Committee F12.
July 2002- A task group of
ASTM Committee
F12 on Security Systems and Equipment has developed a standard
specification for hasps, the name for hardware that holds padlocks to doors.
Loughlin assisted in
the development of both standards with Edward Saladin, product engineer,
American Lock Co., Crete, Ill. Input into the development of Committee F12
standards has included engineers in product development, design, testing,
and manufacturing; representatives of sales, marketing, and consulting;
laboratories; trade associations; the U.S. Department of Defense; locks,
padlocks, and hasps manufacturing managers; and others.
